The Presentation of the Lord Cathedral – Swefieh, Amman

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is celebrated by churches worldwide, commemorating the moment when Jesus was brought to the temple as an infant, fulfilling the Law of Moses. Many churches bear the name "Presentation of the Lord," including the iconic Presentation of the Lord Cathedral in Swefieh, which is part of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Philadelphia. Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Swefieh, in the Wadi Al-Seer district of western Amman, the church stands as a spiritual and community beacon.

Architectural Features

The cathedral is a remarkable architectural and spiritual landmark. It has two entrances:

1. The eastern entrance, which leads directly to a hall.
2. The main entrance at the front, which provides access to the church itself and two spacious halls below the church, where various events and activities are held.

Inside, the church is designed with two levels:

• The ground floor accommodates up to 600 worshippers, featuring beautifully adorned columns with intricate paintings and icons of saints and apostles.
• The upper gallery (known as the "Gallele" or balcony) accommodates up to 100 worshippers and is traditionally opened during special services such as the Akathist Hymns and the Holy Week of Pascha.

Historical Significance

The construction of the cathedral was initiated and supervised during the reign of His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan, under the leadership of Patriarch Kyrios Kyrios Theodoros I in 1985. This collaboration is a testament to the historical and interfaith harmony in Jordan.

Role in the Community

Beyond being a place of worship, the cathedral is a hub for community engagement and spiritual growth. The halls beneath the church host:

• Educational workshops and youth programs.
• Religious celebrations, including baptisms, weddings, and cultural events.
• Scouting activities and community outreach projects organized by groups like The Greek Orthodox Scouts & Guides.

The cathedral's Youth Hall, located near the eastern entrance, is an active space for young people to connect, learn, and grow in faith and fellowship.

Iconography and Spiritual Atmosphere

The church's interior is adorned with stunning Byzantine-style icons, painted with meticulous detail to inspire reverence and devotion. The presence of these sacred artworks enhances the spiritual experience of worshippers and visitors alike, drawing them closer to the Orthodox faith's rich traditions.

The Presentation of the Lord Cathedral stands not only as a spiritual sanctuary but as a symbol of unity, tradition, and service, welcoming all who seek solace, guidance, and a connection to God.

كاتدرائية دخول السيد إلى الهيكل – الصويفية، عمّان

تحتفل الكنائس حول العالم بعيد دخول السيد المسيح إلى الهيكل، وهو العيد الذي يرمز إلى تقديم الطفل يسوع إلى الهيكل وفقًا للشريعة اليهودية. وتحمل العديد من الكنائس اسم "دخول السيد إلى الهيكل"، ومن بينها كاتدرائية دخول السيد إلى الهيكل في منطقة الصويفية، التابعة لمطرانية الروم الأرثوذكس في فيلادلفيا. تقع الكاتدرائية في حي الصويفية، وهو أحد أحياء منطقة وادي السير غرب العاصمة الأردنية عمّان، وتشكل منارة روحية ومجتمعية بارزة.

معالم معمارية مميزة

تُعد الكاتدرائية من أبرز المعالم الروحية والمعمارية، وتتميز بـمدخلين:

• المدخل الشرقي يؤدي إلى قاعة مباشرة.
• المدخل الأمامي، الذي يؤدي إلى الكنيسة وإلى القاعتين الموجودتين أسفلها، حيث تقام مختلف الأنشطة والمناسبات.

أما من الداخل، فتتكون الكنيسة من طابقين:

• الطابق الأرضي الذي يتسع لحوالي 600 شخص، وتزينه أعمدة مزخرفة برسمات وأيقونات القديسين والرسل.
• الطابق العلوي (الجلاجل) الذي يتسع لحوالي 100 شخص، ويتم فتحه عادةً خلال مدائح السيدة العذراء و أسبوع الآلام المقدس.

الأهمية التاريخية

تم بناء الكاتدرائية بإشراف وتمويل في عهد جلالة الملك الحسين بن طلال رحمه الله، تحت قيادة البطريرك كيريوس كيريوس ذيوذورس الأول في عام 1985. ويعكس هذا العمل التعاون التاريخي والانسجام الديني في الأردن.

دورها في المجتمع

الكاتدرائية دورها كدار للعبادة، حيث تعتبر مركزً للنشاطات الروحية والاجتماعية. القاعات الموجودة أسفل الكنيسة تُستخدم:

• لاستضافة ورش عمل تعليمية وبرامج شبابية.
• احتفالات دينية مثل حفلات التعميد والزفاف والفعاليات الثقافية.
• أنشطة كشفية ومشاريع لخدمة المجتمع تُنظمها مجموعات مثل كشافة ومرشدات الروم الأرثوذكس.

كما تُعد قاعة الشبيبة بجانب المدخل الشرقي مكانًا حيويًا يلتقي فيه الشباب لتطوير مهاراتهم وتعميق إيمانهم وبناء صداقات قوية.

الأيقونات والأجواء الروحية

تزين الكاتدرائية من الداخل مجموعة من الأيقونات البيزنطية المرسومة بدقة متناهية، مما يضفي أجواءً من الخشوع والإلهام. تُساهم هذه الأعمال الفنية المقدسة في تعزيز التجربة الروحية للمصلين والزوار، وتُظهر جمال التراث الأرثوذكسي العريق.

تشكل كاتدرائية دخول السيد إلى الهيكل رمزًا للوحدة والتقاليد والخدمة، وتفتح أبوابها لكل من يبحث عن السكينة الروحية والتوجيه والارتباط العميق بالله.
